Neighborhood History: Baker Neighborhood

The Baker Neighborhood's first known resident was Mr. Henry Baker who built a home here in 1854. Mr. Baker was a shopkeeper who had moved from New York to start a life in the new state of Michigan. Further records from this neighborhood show that a few more houses were built here in the 1890s, with the bulk of the homes in this neighborhood being built in the 1920s before the Great Depression.

Because of it's location on the shores of the Grand River, the Baker Neighborhood was highly sought after by new residents and many affluent homeowners moved here to build their houses.
