Northwest Initiative
The NorthWest Initiative provides a variety of free emergency and basic needs services to low income residents; as well as empowerment programming to help lift our families out of poverty.  Emergency/Basic needs services include access to our offices to use telephone, computer, fax machines; assistance signing up for social service assistance through MDHHS; weekly food distribution program, and a Mobile Farmers Market. Our Empowerment programs include maintenance of 3 community and 4 school gardens; teaching 1,000+ students each month garden-based nutrition education at four Lansing schools (Gier Park, Riddle, Sheridan Rd., and Willow); monthly cooking classes; twice a month Senior Discovery Hour sessions; financial literacy and micro-business classes; special youth camp during the summer; seasonal tax preparation site; on-site support groups-Women Behind the Mask and AA/NA; ARRO - ex-offender wrap-around program; ARRO Adult Diversion Program (including GED); and other special events and classes/workshops throughout the year.
